FIFA 08
FIFA 08 is one of the only footballing games on the Wii console. Just like on any other console it uses "button pressing" tactics to perform actions such as pass and through ball etc. However when it comes to shooting the wiimote with its sensor comes to life. When you decide to shoot from outside the area your shots might want a bit more power, to perform a "driven shot" you swing the wiimote up. When your in the area and your shots might want to be a bit more controlled so they hit the target, you can perform a "controlled shot" by swinging the wiimote down. Also, when you are defending you can perform a sliding tackle by swinging the wiimote down.
Although the FIFA 08 on wii doesn't have a management mode which i have to say is disappointing it has a fantastic online mode which means you can play people from all around the world courtesy of ea nation. You can play as any team you like whether it be your devotion to your club such as Accrington Stanley! Or your big European names such as Barcelona and Chelsea. You can also play as countries too.
The game itself has a fully functional training guide which helps you get to grips with the game controls pretty quickly. If you just want to play your mate while he's round your house it has a standard "kick-off" mode too, where you play as your mii characters. Aswell as this you can unlock things such as stadiums, footballs, "european" football strips and world eleven team which is todays best footballing talents such as rooney, ronaldo and terry, and the classic eleven team which consists of footballing greats such as cantona, beckenbauer and pele.
One of the worst problems with the game is that when you swing the wiimote up sometimes for example too quickly the sensor doesnt recognise the movement so you end up standing in front of a one-on-one with the goalkeeper and you stand there doing nothing allowing him to come out and smother the ball, highly annoying!
There is also a "footii mode" where you do games such as keepy-ups and table football using the wii-mote theses games can become highly addictive.
All in all fifa 08 is probably the first all round football game on wii and although it has no management mode, it has other fantastic features and i would give FIFA 08 on Wii a respectable:
8/10

Re: FIFA 08
Nice one Parky! I was a little unsure whether or not to purchase Fifa 08 as I've always found the PES games to be much better. It's good how you can use your EA username for all online EA games such as MoH so it might we worth checking out.
Good mini review there however!

PES> FIFA. On the Wii anyway. The controls are far more intuitive!

I have to agree Dom. The new controls for PES are very, very good. The ability to control players off the ball is genius!
thanks hodgie

Re: FIFA 08
I do like the controls but they can somtimes be infuriatingly unsensitive and they will play a finesse shot instead of a full blast shot so the ball rolls to the keeper. But thats the only niggle I have with this game. I like everything else about it
